Greater Detroit Foreign
Trade Zone, Inc. (GDFTZ) is the grantee or administrator of Foreign Trade Zone No. 70 and
is responsible for the development, marketing and administration of foreign trade zones in
its grant area, which is, essentially the metropolitan Detroit region. It received
its grant of authority from the Foreign-Trade Zones Board, United States Department of
Commerce on July 21, 1981.
Under authority granted
by the U.S. Government, Greater Detroit Foreign Trade Zone, Inc. (GDFTZ), a user-funded,
Michigan non-profit corporation, provides a competitive advantage to companies involved in
international trade through deferral, reduction or elimination of U.S. Customs
duties. Through cooperative efforts with public and private organizations,
these advantages are used to attract and retain businesses which create employment and
economic activity in Southeast Michigan.
